Periodontal Therapy:

As your pet ages, he/she will begin to accumulate dental tartar which can lead to gingivitis and possibly tooth loss. Along with AAHA, Pioneer Animal Hospital recommends a dental examination and professional cleaning under general anesthesia for all dogs and cats greater than 1 year old and every year thereafter.

Consider the following statistics and recommendations:

  • 70% to 85% of all pets over 2 years of age have some degree of periodontal disease.

  • 60% of dental disease lies underneath the gum line and can’t be seen without radiographs.

  • Complete dental care includes :
    1. Daily brushing
    2. Tartar controlling diets and/or treats
    3. Twice yearly examinations to monitor progression of oral health status
    4. Yearly dental scaling/polishing
  • Even with home care, most pets need yearly dentistry to prevent periodontal disease.

Pioneer Animal Hospital is happy to provide dental examinations and estimates free of charge. Our facility features state of the art equipment and our staff is trained in the latest scaling/polishing techniques to provide your pet with the best available care.

Should extractions be required, our hospital provides multiple pain control options to make sure your pet leaves healthy and comfortable.
